Lithosphere 8th Notes KSEEB Social Science
→ The interior most solid layer of the earth is known as the “Lithosphere”
→ Lithosphere in very thick in the continents and quite thin under the sea floor.
→ Lithosphere consists of rocks, minerals, soils etc.
→ Continents are parts of the lithosphere where different land forms like mountains, plateaus, Plains etc, are found.
→ What is inside the earth is still a mystery for man.
→ Earth’s interior is classified into 3 main layers
→ The Crust, the mantle and the core are the 3 types of layers found in the earth
→ The crust is the uppermost layer of the earth rich is silicon, the aluminium, and magnesium.
→ The mantle is the second and the middle layers of the earth
→ The core is the innermost layer of the earth.
→ Rocks are the solid inorganic substances that are found in the crust of the earth.
→ The earth has two important forces that change the face of the earths. They are internal forces and external forces.
→ Volcanoes, Earthquakes are the internals forces.
→ External forces like temperature, wind, rainfall snowfall, river, glacier etc.
→ A Volcano is a vent. A passage in the earth’s crust through which magma and Cher volcanic materials are ejected is called “vent”
→ 3 types of Volcanoes: active volcanoes, dormant volcanoes, Extinct Volcanoes,
→ Earthquake is a shock or series of shocks or tremors, due to a sudden movement of crustal rocks generated within the crust or mantle
→ There are 3 types of earthquake, waves: they are primary waves, secondary waves, surface waves.
