Question 1.
Why had the students been marching? How was it an unusual march?
Answer:
The students wanted to give a notice to the Collector. The notice contained the information that the British should Quit India. A teacher was arrested. So the boys took a different course of agitation. It was nothing but a silent protest. It was unusual march because the agitators didn’t shout any slogans. They marched in complete silence.

Answer:
The police officer might have told them to stop agitation as it was not fruitful. The police officer might have informed them to stop their agitation.

Babu and Manju were a bit disappointed with the way students were marching, What was the reason? .
Answer:
Babu and Manju had thought that the agitators would shout slogan ‘Quit India’ but they didn’t and they marched silently. They expected some kind of forceful agitation. But it didn’t happen. So they were disappointed.

Answer:
The police had thought that the agitation would be grave one. which could cause serious problems. The agitators would shout slogans and destroy the public property. They expected that something wrong would take place but it didn’t.

What was there in the mysterious parcel’? What suspicion did the police have about that?
Answer:
The mysterious parcel contained a cyclostyle machine. The police had come to know about that. Further they suspected that Mohan and his members of the family would print or take out cyclostyle copies of Gandhiji’s speech and distribute those to the people. The police also suspected that some people had taken shelter in that place.

Why had Patil. the sub-inspector come there? Who believed him? What was the result?
Answer:
The Sub-Inspector called Mr. Patil was the best friend of Mohan’s father who was arrested. So he had come to his house to help Mohan. He wanted to take the cyclostyle machine because he knew that the police would raid the house. Amma believed him and told Mohan to handover the machine. The result was that he stopped them from being attested. The final result was that the family was saved.

What do you think is the writer of the incident trying to impress upon the readers?
Answer:
It was the time of ’Quit India Movement’. The people wanted that the British should leave India and wanted freedom. Even the children took part in the agitation and marched silently to show their protest. One should have patriotic spirit and love the country.
