Give an account of Dicky Dolma’s hardship and challenges she faced before she was qualified for this venture.
Answer:
Dicky Dolma was from Himachal Pradesh. She was born and brought up in Palchan. During her childhood, she faced a lot of hardships. She lost her mother and elder brother, when she was only eleven years old. She was deeply interested in skiing, participated in National level competitions and won a lot of medals.
She was attracted by the beauty of the snow covered peaks and she had the urge to climb those peaks. She joined mountaineering institute in Manali and underwent training. Her friends and the members of her family supported and encouraged her. She worked hard with zeal, zest and determination.
Question 2.
How has Dolma described her preparedness for the task of scaling Mount Everest?
Answer:
Dicky Dolma had the urge to climb Mount Everest. So she joined newly opened mountaineering institute in Manali and complete training courses. She had one-track mind and possessed all the zest and zeal. Her family members and friends encouraged her in her endeavour. As a result, she got ’A’ grade. Then she was selected for an All-India Expedition to Mount Everest. She had made three successful expeditions to different mountains. So she climbed Mt. Everest on May 10, 1993. For this task she had worked hard with strong determination and a firm bent of mind.

Question 1.
“With zeal and determination there is nothing that one cannot achieve”. What else do you think are necessary to achieve, besides zeal and determination. Have a discussion in the class.
Answer:
One should have interest to take adventurous sports and one should work hard to achieve the goal. One should not step back because of any hurdles of any kind. We also require the support of the members of the family an friends to achieve our goal. Money is also an important factor to be considered.

Narrate the adventurous story of Dicky Dolma in your own words.
Answer:
Dicky Dolma was brought up in Palchan in Himachal Pradesh. During her childhood she faced a lot of hardships. She lost her mother and brother, but she possessed the strong urge to climb the peaks. She worked hard for it. She joined the training institute and underwent rigorous training.
She climbed Mt. Everest on May 10, 1993. Then she was only 19 years old. She worked hard, she had strong passion, ardent desire and possessed the zest and zeal. Besides mountaineering, she loved listen to music and at present she is working as Coach for the young who are willing to go for adventure sports.
